Our main aim in the Baby
Room is to follow your child’s individual routine; maintaining
your own feeding, toilet training and sleeping pattern to make your
baby feel happy and content. The room is self-contained with specialised
nursery nurses who are able to provide a flexible and adaptable
approach that is both loving and supportive. We have a separate
sleep area for resting babies along with homely comfy chairs and
cushions for your baby to share quieter moments within their day.
The Early Years Foundation
Stage framework guides us in providing an environment which enhances
your babies curiosity. Visual stimulus is provided through mobiles,
colourful displays and decorations at heights that will attract
attention. Physical stimulation is encouraged through activity centres,
mats and ‘baby gyms’. Emergent speech is progressed
through the use of very simple, strongly illustrated books, plenty
of verbal contact and hand signals with our nursery nurses.
Routines from home are
followed to allow a smooth transition into the nursery. Staff are
happy to discuss routines and offer advice as your baby progresses
through various milestones.
Every baby up to a year old will have their own
daily record detailing feeds, sleeping patterns and nappy changes.
Parents/carers need to provide formula milk, and nappies. Once you
would like your baby to start weaning we offer the choice of you
either providing food in jars or packets made to your request or
alternatively we will blend our food made fresh on the premises
to the correct consistency for your babies stage of development.
We choose Nursery Nurses who specialise in this
age range and offer a continuity of care. The unit operates with
a minimum of four specialists that cares for a maximum of twelve
babies. The baby room co-ordinator maintains control of day to day
routines, activities and team work.
As your child approaches the age of 2 years they
may spend a proportion of their time with the older children. This
helps to make the transition to the main areas much smoother for
both children and parent’s.
Toddlers between 2-3 years,
like to explore, investigate and question the world around them.
This area of the nursery aims to provide your child with lots of
stimulus to help extend their learning whilst working within the
Early Years Foundation stage. Children have time to join in with
activities that are as much fun as possible along with spending
short periods of the day with the older children.
Social skills are developed
in small groups through painting and creative activities were toddlers
develop their skills of expression. Books and jigsaws are on offer
for those quieter more relaxed periods of the day which can be shared
with or without an adult. The children use construction materials
daily to build and explore opportunities using different materials.
This contributes to their developing co–ordination and spacial
awareness. There are plenty of outside play opportunities during
the day to develop gross motor skills and let off a bit of steam…
A separate area is provided for sleeping if your
toddler needs to have a rest after lunch or anytime of the day.
As your child reaches
the next steps of their development they will start to integrate
into the pre-school group for short periods of the day to help them
settle into a more structured routine.
When your child joins the pre-school group their
day is carefully planned by our experienced nursery nurses. Children
three and over are given opportunities to learn through play in
a stimulating and attractive environment. Our nursery guides children
to develop and progress at their own rate whilst working towards
achieving all areas of learning and development.
Children enjoy the company of other children
their own age and are encouraged to work in both small and large
groups to enhance their social skills and promote positive relationships.
Adult interaction allows children to build on their experiences
along with developing communication skills and co-operation with
others.
There are lots of hands on activities to help
stimulate natural curiosity such as painting, jelly play, sand &
water play and modelling activities to develop creative skills.
There is a separate role play area where children can bring to life
their own experiences. Outside the children engage in lots of physical
play alongside having the chance to help with the growing of vegetables
in our garden.
Observations are made throughout their time in
the nursery and progress and achievements are celebrated on a regular
basis to help develop confidence and self –esteem.
We have built up strong liaisons with the local
schools so the transition from nursery is as smooth as possible
-this enables the children to build new friendships and broaden
their experiences in their future school life. Every child will
be given a portfolio of their observations and achievements to take
with them when they leave the nursery - this contains useful information
alongside your comments and allows other professionals to further
promote your child’s development.
Some of the children who leave nursery to go
to school are able to move onto our extended care sessions if they
attend Sutterton Fourfields Primary School.
Our Breakfast Club opens
at 8.00am and children are offered a healthy breakfast of fresh
fruit and cereals alongside a choice of drinks. We have a selection
of activities available before children are walked over to the local
school.
At the end of the day we will collect children
from school and upon their return they have the opportunity to join
in with sports, games, arts/crafts and many other freely chosen
activities. Children join us for afternoon tea as stated in our
Health & Nutrition section before continuing with their chosen
activities before going home.
